When Friends Turn Up It Rains

So Anna and I decided last year that it would be great to go to the Czech Republic for this summer; there was a couple of reasons.  We have been thinking about moving here, it is where Anna is from, and I wanted a summer where it did not rain all the time, as has been our summers in Ireland for the last few years.

We got here in April and it was still cold, the house had not been heated since last summer and the walls radiated cold, great for the summer – so I seemed to spend the first couple of weeks lighting stoves in the rooms, cutting up wood, and collecting turf for the fires – it is amazing how much turf you can get through in a day.  And then the day starts again with cleaning out the ashes – this was going to be a summer of relaxing while at the same time getting this Camino book finished that I have been talking about for the last few years – but I do know better, plans never completely work out.

We got passed the first month of cold and feeling like I was burning enough peat to be responsible solely for global warming, when suddenly the weather changes and it was hot – wonderful, now I could get on with some work.  It is amazing how fast trees, bushes, grass, and flowers grow as soon as they get some heat.  Cutting the grass takes me two hours and I feel like I deserve a days rest after.  But I got work done.  I cut back the trees and cut the wood for the fire.  The weather was great till a few days before my Dad arrived.  For the week he was here it rained non-stop, we could have just been back in Ireland.

He went home and we got organised for holidays, we went walking the Camino from Le Puy for ten days – the weather was great, in fact a bit hot – but it was great.  We came back to the Czech Republic and got back to work – I deleted about 2,000 emails – one by one, I really hate email after holidays.  Anyway the weather was great till about 4 days before Declan came to visit from Ireland. Since he has arrived it has rained, and rained – this is July where are the warm balmy days?

Declan is gone on Monday – Tuesday says the weather forecast is going to be warm and sunny – go figure.  So Tuesday I am back working and the sun is out – I really shouldn’t complain so much as I have a very good life.
